stupid volume control, etc.

just now i opened the volume control and moved my mouse a little. unfortunately, dozens of volume control panels opened and my dad had to open the task manager to close all of them. this computer is getting more and more lag everyday, i swear. my dad thinks that a blog is for you to write essays, but unfortunately for him it's a tool for you to write about everyday things, like an online journal.
he wants me to write about what i feel about national day.
ok, whatever.
there was the pledge thing at 8:22 p.m. i don't think us students recognise the pledge as a pledge anymore. that's because after years and years of repeating it every school day, we just don't think about it anymore. from wikitionary:
pledge
A solemn promise to do something.
the words of the pledge are:

We, the citizens of Singapore
pledge ourselves as one united people,
regardless of race, language or religion,
to build a democratic society,
based on justice and equality,
so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and
progress for our nation.

so i'll explain what the pledge wants us to do. whoever we are, we need to build a democratic society here in Singapore, so Singapore can earn money and be a happy place. i doubt that many people have actually thought about what the pledge is, and not *oh look, they want us to say it so we'll just say it and forget about it*.
i think the national day parade was weird. why the pole dancers? ok, so it's to show that we support sports. but why couldn't they choose something at least slightly stereotypical of sports? pole dancing originated in strip clubs, for goodness sake. maybe the organizer is a lech. or maybe the organizer gave the public(men) a poll:
  1. handball(ol' geezers sit around tossing a ball at something)
  2. football
  3. basketball
  4. STRIP TEASIN' POLE DANCE!
it's obvious. but this is highly unlikely, so i still don't know why they chose it. to prevent people from flaming me, i'll just say in advance: sorry, mr. organizer and the pole dance people. also, the dancers who had red balls*snigger* sewn onto their dresses: ZOMG TUMOUROUS GROWTHS. but the rest were ok. every year i see the parade, i feel for those poor soldiers/girl guides/scouts/NPCC people/NCC people/can't remember the rest for having to stand for so long. and having to march 3.2 km.
